A document from the travels of peripatetic saxophonist Christoph Erb, being a set from 2019 at the Hungry Brain in Chicago, accompanied by keyboardist Jim Baker (here playing only analog synthesizer) and percussionist Steve Hunt. This is Baker's fifth recorded outing with Erb, and Erb's first recording with Mr Hunt. The two Chicagoans have played frequently together over the years with various other saxophonists (Mars Williams, Ken Vandermark, Edward Wilkerson Jr, Keefe Jackson); Baker has also recorded with Dave Rempis, Fred Anderson, and David Boykin, while Hunt spent more than a decade playing with the legendary Hal Russell. A forty minute freely-improvised performance by musicians playing saxophone, synthesizer, and percussion, that, if listened to and not enjoyed, will be time that you won't be able to get back again....(but then again, that description would apply equally to any other recording by any artist...we're just being upfront with you, in the spirit of full disclosure, or something).

Tomas Fujiwara masterfully composes a perfect platform to appreciate the range of delicacy, power, and swing of Reid and Brennan. A highlight recording for all three. Barry Silver
This record has such a magical flow to it, it seems to capture so directly the ups and downs of life, the joy of music and dance, and it's just so damn catchy and fun to listen to as well. Giles
A very interesting album. At a few places I keep asking myself: Was this composed by Arnold Schönberg (or his disciples)? Anyway, I'm all for skilled musicians exploring the boundary (if one exists) between jazz and classical. Thumbs up! jyrki63
